Thanks to Daryl LaFleur for sending around notice of the Valley Advocate article announcing City Councilor-At-Large Michael Bardsley’s big announcement. He is running for Northampton Mayor against four-time incumbent Mayor Clare Higgins.

Currently, the mayor crafts decisions ahead of time with her staff, he said, and then offers her conclusions as take-it-or-leave-it propositions: “Either you’re for her, or against her. As mayor, I want to be more inclusive. I want the Council and public to understand the dimensions of what’s to be decided and what the options are before we settle on a direction.”

This announcement was a rumbling in the works for a while. What will be interesting to see is if last election’s write-in candidate Gene Tacy will throw his heft behind Bardsley go for it again himself.
